Bio & CV
Morgan Lochbihler was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and graduated with a BFA at Appalachian State University in the mountains of Boone, NC. She is intrigued by patterns, designs, and nature, which greatly influence her detailed work. Lochbihler chooses to work with fibers because it gives her the freedom to manipulate the material, while having the ability to turn it into something utilitarian. With a passion for design and fibers, her goal was to work in the textile design industry after she finished her undergraduate degree. Lochbihler focuses on experimentation and process, and has created a diverse body of work. Her work has appeared in publications, such as The Peel Literature and Arts Review, as well as juried exhibitions, such as FASA’s 44th Annual Fiber Art Exhibition, Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2018, Art Expo, Chancellor’s House Art Exhibition, Patterns Online Art Exhibition, and Away Exhibition in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. Lochbihler has also been recognized for her art with awards including the Art Mart Scholarship Award, the Jaroslav & Jarmelia Kabatnik Memorial Scholarship, and the Marianne Stevens Suggs Student Travel Scholarship for Fibers.
Currently, she is working as a Technical Designer in the Floor Covering Division for Milliken and Company. She has developed new knowledge and understanding of manufacturing and a unique perspective of woven fabric and floor covering on a production level. Lochbihler is continuously learning the technical aspects that go into designing floor covering, as well as understanding the needs and wants of clients. This has given her a great opportunity to explore a side of textiles she has never known.
